WINE OF ORIGIN BOT RIVER

Totalling 23 ha, our vineyards are small enough for great quality and big enough for great passion. We limit harvest to between six and seven tons per hectare in order to intensify flavours and terroir in small grape berries.

PaardenKloof Estate is one of the first South African black-owned wine estates to establish its own vineyards from new plantings. Our award winning viticulturist Kevin Watt and our winemakers ensure that our wines are handcrafted and exclusive. They are unadulterated premium wines produced from low yielding vineyards.

PaardenKloof Estate wines are a distinct expression of terroir. Detailed soil analysis and topographical studies determined the location of original plantings of the vineyards. Our wine experience begins with respect for the soil and the pursuit of the perfect interplay between climate, grape variety, carefully controlled yield and perfect timing of harvests.  The estate’s rolling hills are cooled every afternoon by breezes from the nearby Atlantic Ocean. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimum temperature at dawn.

The Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir varietals are crafted by Kobie Viljoen, one of the best Bordeaux style winemakers in the country, whilst our white wine and Pinot Noir are made by Adam Mason.

Our limited quantity of red wine varietals have been maturing in the PaardenKloof Estate cellar since 2008 and debuts with PaardenKloof Die Lang Pad Shiraz 2008 Peter Clarke Collection in 2013.

PaardenKloof Estate released its first Sauvignon Blanc in 2007 under the Ecology label. The wine's fruity and crisp flavour and premium drinkability was well received by wine lovers and connoisseurs alike. Our 2012 Sauvignon Blanc has been released in keeping with this tradition under the PaardenKloof label.

The farm is an accredited IPW member, and is in the process of being accredited as a BWI Champion, due to over 75% of the farm being dedicated to conservation. All wines are made under the watchful eye of regulatory organisations such as Wines of South Africa, the Wine and Spirits Board, and SAWIS.
